Job Description
We're currently hiring Nutrition Services Assistants for St. Paul Public Schools.

A Nutrition Services Assistant II performs work independently, with minimal supervision including, but not limited to: customer service, forecasting, ordering, and receiving food and supplies, managing appropriate food and supply inventories, food safety and sanitation, recipe management, cooking, food preparation and service.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Forecasts food and supply needs; places food and supply orders; inspects and processes food and supply orders upon receiving; stores and manages food and supply inventories
  • Receives, handles, prepares, cooks and stores food and supplies
  • Forecasts, slacks, and prepares quantity foods in accordance with scheduled meal periods, menu plans, production plans, standardized recipes, and ingredient control requirements
  • Applies HACCP principals by identifying the critical control points, establishing limits, monitoring procedures, taking corrective actions, verifying procedures, and maintaining record-keeping and documentation 
  • Performs quality assurance, food testing and evaluation within the cooking process and implements action when safety, quality, or other deficiencies are identified
  • Prepares and/or modifies food preparation, as needed, for special diets
  • Operates equipment that may include, but is not limited to a dish machine and three-compartment sink; food scales, tilt skillet, mixers, commercial food processor, ovens, steamers, hot holding cabinets, commercial baking equipment, cook-chill equipment, commercial food chiller, pallet jack, forklift and, utensils, pots and pans and a point of sale system
  • Operates, cleans, reassembles and performs simple maintenance on a variety of kitchen appliances and equipment
  • Prepares, monitors and distributes logs, data, reports, and records as assigned
  • Participates in meetings, in-services, and trainings
  • Provides orientation, coaching and training to colleagues
  • Demonstrates competency with food safety and sanitation requirements, department procedures, and job tasks

 

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Background check
